Qualification Title: QCF – Level 4 Certificate in Gas Safety Management in LPG Caravan and Park Home Sites

Background:
This regulated QCF qualification is for learners that wish to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of LPG installations and appliances in Caravans and Park Homes that are under their control or management. The qualification will also provide under pinning knowledge for practicing LPG engineers who wish to expand on their knowledge and prepare to move into a management or supervisory role.
Learner outcomes:
- Know how an open flued chimney system works and how to confirm its safe operation in caravans and park homes; how a room sealed chimney system works and how to confirm its safe operation; the requirements for ventilation for gas appliances and the dangers that can occur when chimney systems do not function correctly.
- Know how the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations impact upon the gas safety facilities management role; how to appoint gas operatives and contractors; to ensure operational performance of gas operatives and contractors and how to deal with reports of gas escapes or fumes.
- Know the types of gas boilers suitable for installation in caravans and park homes; will know the types of space heaters suitable for installation; understand the requirements for the installation gas cooking appliances, the differences between a warm air unit and a wet central heating system; meter installation requirements, cylinder sizing and installation pipework.
- Know the requirements for the installation of LPG service pipework from the storage vessel to the premises; the types of gas safety and user controls fitted to LPG bulk storage vessels and cylinders; the procedure and standards of testing and purging service pipework; how to prevent, respond to and deal with LPG emergencies and the requirements for the competence of site personnel dealing with emergencies and the provision of emergency procedures; instructions and information on caravan and park home sites.
- Know the design, installation and operation requirements of LPG bulk storage vessels located above and below ground on caravan and park home sites; the pressure regimes from the LPG bulk storage vessel to the premises, the requirements for the siting; location and storage of single and multiple LPG cylinders; the installation requirements for single and multiple LPG cylinder.
- Know how the gas combustion process works; the effects that Carbon Monoxide (CO)has on the human body; how Carbon Monoxide detectors are used to reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and the requirements for gas engineers responding to alarm activation or reports of fumes.
- Know the requirements of the legislation and normative standards and codes of practice that are relevant to gas safety; application of the relevant legislation; normative standards and codes of practice (CoP) to gas safety situations, the Reporting of Injuries; Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) within the gas industry; the Gas Industry Unsafe Situation Procedure (GIUSP) and the legal requirements for businesses and individuals carrying out gas work
- Know how the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations (GSIUR); Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance and the HASAWA impact upon the gas safety responsibilities of landlords or their agents; will be able to identify how the GSIUR, HSE guidance place requirements on specific operations of landlords and their agents; how to appoint and manage competent external gas contractors; the ability to ensure operational performance of gas operatives is monitored; and how to deal with reports of gas escapes or fumes received from tenants
