Code: ACS – CCCN1 (plus appliance and pipework codes – COMCAT1, COMCAT2, COMCAT3, COMCAT4, COMCAT5, ICPN1, TPCP1a, TPCP1, CMC1)
Expiry:
5 years. Candidates can undertake the re-assessment of any element up to 6 months early without losing any time (MOT Style). Previous certificates must be produced at the time of assessment as evidence.
Background:
CCCN1 (or a suitable changeover – CODC1) is required for any operative wishing to work on non-domestic catering gas installations and appliances. In addition, the operative must hold the relevant appliance element to the work they wish to undertake.
Course / Assessment overview:
The candidate will be assessed in the following areas:-
- Gas safety legislation and standards
- Gas emergency actions and procedures
- Installation of pipework and fittings
- Tightness testing and purging (natural gas installations of total IV < 0.035 m³) Appliance pipework connections
- Unsafe situations, use of emergency notices and warning labels for pipework
- Operation and positioning of emergency isolation controls and valves
- Products and characteristics of combustion
- Checking and/or setting meter regulators (and supply/appliance regulators)
- Unsafe situations, use of emergency notices and warning labels
- Operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls
- Re-establish existing gas supply and relight appliances . Ventilation and flueing (make-up and extract)
- Commercial catering appliance modules:-
- COMCAT1 – Commercial catering appliances (Group 1) i.e.open and solid top range cookers
- COMCAT2 – Commercial catering appliances (Group 2) i.e. gas water / steam boilers (cafe set)
- COMCAT3 – Commercial catering appliances (Group 3) i.e. fryers and grills
- COMCAT4 – Commercial catering appliances (Group 4) i.e. fish and chip ranges
- COMCAT5 – Commercial catering appliances (Group 5 i.e. combination oven (rational / lainox)
- ICPN1 – Installation of commercial pipework
- TPCP1a – Testing, purging and commissioning of commercial pipework to IGEM/UP/1a
- TPCP1 – Testing, purging and commissioning of commercial pipework to IGEM/UP/1a
- CMC1 – Commercial mobile catering vehicles (in conjunction with CONGLP1)
Pre-requisites:
For the initial assessment candidates must meet the entry requirements as laid out in guidance note 8 for category 1, 2, and 3 entrants (see ACS scheme rules).
For the re-assessment candidates must have held the CCCN1 previously – if this has expired within 12 months of the assessment date the initial assessment must be undertaken.
This would have an equivalence to Level 3 qualifications.
Assessment method:
Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods, including multiple choice, short written response, scenario questions and observed practical assessment.
