Gas Courses
SGAS offer the best quality, value & service for Gas Courses in Lancashire, in all categories of gas work.
Our Gas Courses range from entry level, for engineers entering the gas industry, to experienced gas operatives who simple require gas re-assessment.
Background to the ACS Gas Scheme & Gas Assessment
ACS (the National Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives) came into force in August 1998, replacing the previous gas training scheme known as ACOP (Approved Code of Practice – Standards of Training in Safe Gas Installation).
The ACOP scheme concentrated more on “Gas Training” and was less prescriptive with respect to the assessment process. This created a disjointed and unreliable means of proving competence.
The ACS Scheme, however, is a robust scheme built around quality systems and processes. In theory, all centres operating ACS should be assessing to the same criteria.
ACS must be certificated via a UKAS Accredited Certification Body. The scheme centres around the gas assessment process, rather than the gas training process.
Therefore, experienced engineers / operatives can be re-assessed without having to take formal gas training courses first.
Refresher gas courses are optional for operatives renewing their ACS and full gas training is available for those carrying out ACS for the first time.
ACOP Courses are still available in areas of Gas Work where ACS modules do not exist, such as:-
-
Industrial Process Plant
-
Liquid Offtake LPG Installations
-
Furnace Atmospheres
-
Advanced Combustion & Stoichiometry
In addition to gas courses and assessments carried out at the centre, SGAS carry out onsite bespoke gas training for industry and commerce.
